Legler was
the first european company to understand the market changes
in the mid seventies deciding to change its production accordingly.
Up to then the production was for fine colour wovens. Later
it focused mainly on denim, flat and cord for the sportswear
sector.
Here following you can read the most important developments
in the last 25 years:
At the beginning of the seventies a new corduroy
with polyester is created: Cord 2000, which had better
dimensional stability.
In 1974-75 Legler is the first denim manufacturer
in Europe.
In the seventies pigment dyeing is invented. In 1977-78
Legler produces new cords and flats with a fade out look
thanks to the use of such pigments.
In 1978-79 Legler develops a delave patchwork
print obtained by using indigo on cords and flats.
In 1983 the sales of stretch warp fabrics are booming.
In 1985-86 Legler develops printed cords and viscose
cords.
In 1986 the big trend is for double-face fabrics.
From 1986 up to now, Legler has been developing new
performing finishes more and more sophisticated following
the trend for techno-functional fabrics. It has invested
a lot in developments. Research is gaining more importance
and has become the key factor in textile.
In 1998-99 weft stretch cords and flats take off.
In 2000: polyester cotton flat and moleskins. Use
of a recycled yarn: PET. Developments of low pile cords.
In 2000-01: Legler develops several resin finishes
to change the touch of fabrics. Trends for polyester/cotton
cords.
In 2001: Fabric Story is created. Boom of ready
for dyeing treatments.
In 2001-2002: Use of many pigment coatings and indigo
overdyeings on flats and cords.
In 2002: Big trends for techno-functional fabrics:
Legler develops several fabrics with Cordura and Kevlar
yarns. Creation of MFC finish: a multifuctional treatment
to make fabrics easy care, oil-water repellent…
In 2003: Continues the trends for new performing
yarns: Legler develops many fabrics with the use of an innovative
compact yarn.
In 2004: Big trends for RAW flat finish. White denim
aspects. Creation of a new mechanical treatment.
In 2005: Great development of new compact and malfilé
yarns.
